## Now

- **Apprenticeship:** Safran Landing Systems, apprentice in the Industrial IT Innovation department since September 2024.
- **Degree:** CESI, engineering degree in computer science, graduating in 2027.
- **Building:** [Ank](/work/ank), a coordination layer for coding agents, released and open source.

## Selected work

Systems I built at work, in research and on my own.

- [Ank](https://sean.lamet.dekrow.com/work/ank.md): A small, token-efficient coordination layer for long-running agentic coding work, keeping tasks, claims and architecture decisions in the repository behind one CLI.
- [PhysDAQ](https://sean.lamet.dekrow.com/work/physdaq.md): A wearable research instrument that records pulse and motion from several points on the body, from the sensor board to the CSV a researcher opens.
- **[Safran Landing Systems](https://www.safran-group.com/companies/safran-landing-systems)**, 4 projects:
  - [Tool management system](https://sean.lamet.dekrow.com/work/safran-tool-management.md): A full-stack tool management application for aerospace machining, with 3D visualisation, advanced search and exports, which I designed and developed end to end.
  - [RFID bridge for shop-floor tracking](https://sean.lamet.dekrow.com/work/safran-rfid-bridge.md): A background service in Rust that links USB RFID hardware to web applications, for real-time process tracking on the shop floor.
  - [Lead-time prediction for machined parts](https://sean.lamet.dekrow.com/work/safran-predictive-maintenance.md): A machine-learning model that predicts the finish date and time of a machined part from the moment the ERP declares it to be made.
  - [CNC data logger and alerts](https://sean.lamet.dekrow.com/work/safran-cnc-data-logger.md): A connected data logger for CNC machining centres, with live visualisation, an e-ink display and BLE, and the threshold alerts built around it.

## Before this became a career

What came before the degree and the jobs.

- **2017, First programs.** Around 2017 I started experimenting seriously with programming and with technology in general, on my own. Nothing from that time is published.
- **2018, Computing in Malta.** I studied computing and technical drawing at [St Martins College](https://chs.edu.mt/) in Malta.
- **2019–21, A Spotify display.** My first project built on someone else's API. Using the Spotify API, it showed the track playing, the album or artist artwork, the information that goes with it, and the lyrics.
- **2020, A homelab and a class cloud.** Back from Gabon and during the COVID lockdown, I went deep into Linux. I built a homelab with Apache web servers, self-hosted services and its own network, and experimented with a Tor onion service. On it I set up Nextcloud and opened it to my class, with about 100 GB of storage per student.
- **2020–22, A flaw in a class vote.** In STI2D, a course produced a website for the prom vote. Its account creation could be abused to create several accounts and vote several times. On my own I built a proof of concept that demonstrated it under control, then showed the problem to the teacher.
- **2022, Green-roof irrigation.** My STI2D final project was an irrigation system for a green roof. An ESP32 ran the control logic and a web server, with a web interface to follow and drive it. It was one of the first projects where software and hardware met. [Source on GitHub](https://github.com/haksolot/toit-VG-table)

In high school each student could ask for one book from the school's budget. I asked for Langage C by Frédéric Drouillon; the French teacher gave me an odd look.

## How I work

- I learn the constraints and the data flows before I add features.
- I build end to end, from hardware to deployment, when the problem asks for it.
- I keep infrastructure simple and interfaces open, so a part can be replaced.
