Problem

Tracking a process on the shop floor in real time means knowing when a tagged item is read, and showing that read in web applications. A web page in a browser cannot talk to a USB reader plugged into the workstation on its own.

What I built

A background service in Rust, written during my apprenticeship at Safran Landing Systems. It sits between USB RFID hardware and web applications, so that a read at the reader becomes something those applications can use, as it happens.

I built it with my department, which knows the network, the environment and the services it can reach; with operators, for the features and screens they need and the data they produce; with production planners; and with the operators’ managers.

Where it stands

It is released, and it runs in production on every workstation that has a scanner, in the background, next to the hardware. This work is confidential, so this page names no internal system and shows no architecture, URL or screenshot.
